The King's Speech

Even with Ryan Gosling’s endearing yet heartbreaking performance in Blue Valentine, its hard to imagine Firth not winning. He was so convincing, when I see him on television I now expect him to stutter.

Blue Valentine

Some movie titles are self explanatory. Some are ridiculous. Some are even named after songs, for example The Kids Are Alright, which is just plain lazy. Blue Valentine falls under a completely different category. It’s title perfectly describes the film, while being creative at the same time, and catchy to boot.

True Grit

The Brothers Coen showed the world their idea of a western with No Country for Old Men. The film became an instant classic, but being that its set in 1980, it doesn’t quite qualify as a classic western. So when the trailer hit for the Coens’ remake of True Grit, they had my full attention.

Fargo

One of the darkest and driest comedies in recent memory, Fargo is the simple tale of how a simple man’s problems with money and his desperation not only effect his life forever, but the lives of others around him.
